Emergency Preparedness

The Geauga County Health District has been involved in emergency and disaster preparedness planning and education for many years. In 2001, the attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, as well as the Anthrax attack, caused our nation to be more accutely aware of the possibility of these types of terrorism. In response, the federal government passed The Public Health and Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Act of 2002. The act provides grant money for states to improve the infrastructure of their local health departments for bioterrorism response.

In addition, the Health District has been working with the Geauga County Emergency Management Agency to develop Weapons of Mass Destruction plans and general emergency response to a variety of disasters, both natural and "man-caused".

Here are some of the programs the Health District is directly involved with, as well as information from local, state and government agencies involved in emergency preparedness.
