The For Sale of Property Regulation is a portion of the Geauga County Household Sewage Disposal System Regulations. It is a part of, not a part from. We have separated it here for ease of access only. For an full understanding and awareness of the Household Sewage System Regulations, please refer to those sections also available on this website.
The For Sale of Property Regulations protect home purchasers and the community from failures in private sewage systems. The regulation requires home sellers that have existing household sewage systems have the system inspected by a Geauga County Health District Registered Sanitarian during the selling process to insure proper operation of the system. This only applies to private household sewage systems, not homes that convey sewage to a central waste water treatment plant.
You can review the For Sale of Property Regulations and the property checklist. The Application and Waiver Form must be signed by the homeowner and submitted with payment to the Geauga County Health District. Some frequently asked questions are answered here. Prior the the inspection some of the components of the existing septic system need to be uncovered. Here is a diagram to assist in uncovering components of the septic tank.
